First Contact Physiotherapist

How can a first contact physiotherapist help you?

  • All soft tissue injuries, sprains, strains or sports injuries
  • Possible problems with muscles, ligaments, tendons or bone.

    EG: tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, ankle sprains

  • Spinal pain including lower back pain, mid-back pain and neck pain
  • Spinal-related pain in arms or legs, including nerve symptoms, eg pins and needles or numbness
  • Arthritis – any joint

The role of First Contact Physiotherapists (FCPs) in Primary Care is to assess patients with soft tissue, muscle and joint pain and to decide on the most appropriate management pathway. FCPs are physiotherapists with expertise in the assessment and management of Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions.

Our FCPs hold clinics Monday to Friday. Please contact reception for their availability.

Midwife

Our midwife holds regular antenatal clinics. Medical care is organised on a shared basis with the doctors. Appointments are arranged by the reception staff: please check for availability.

Health Visitors

How can a health visitor help you?

  • Offering support during the transition into parenthood
  • Providing support & advice on breast feeding, infant feeding & healthy eating for young children
  • Assessing children’s growth & development needs at various stages
  • Promoting the best start in speech, language & communication

All health visitors are registered nurses, having also completed training in child health development. They can offer advice on problems with babies, young children and the elderly. Medical care is carried out on a shared basis with the doctors. Please contact reception for their availability.

District Nurses

Our district nurses will visit the housebound for dressings, health advice, assessment for further assistance etc, when referred by the doctor, and will refer back to the surgery when necessary.
